MTI’s Industry Partners Provide Student Financing!

MTI is always looking for ways to help students afford the best in professional truck driver training. MTI and Trimac Transportation have developed the Train With Trimac program to help selected students finance their training.

Train With Trimac

MTI’s partnership with Trimac Transportation has resulted in the unique "Train with Trimac" program. The program is available to qualified students who choose to work for Trimac upon graduation. Trimac will interview the candidates and may select one or more for a sponsored place in the Earning Your Wheels Program. The Train with Trimac program provides financing for up to 63% of the cost of the Earning Your Wheels tuition. Students that qualify for Supervised Work Experience with Trimac will be paid while they are driving for Trimac even as a student! What a deal – part of your tuition is paid, you get paid during the Supervised Work Experience, and if you do well you have a full-time job when you graduate!

Contact MTI about the Train with Trimac program.

MTI is working with our industry partners to provide additional financing options so check back with us from time to time to see what new options are available. Email us at info@drivemti.com and tell us you are interested and we will contact you when new programs are introduced.

More Ways to Finance Earning Your Wheels

Most students pay for their course using a combination of the following types of financing.

Savings

One of the lowest cost methods of financing your MTI program is with money you have saved.

Registered Education Savings Plan

Funds in a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) can be used to pay the costs of attending Mountain Transport Institute. Mountain Transport Institute Ltd. is a designated post-secondary institution and is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency.

RRSP – Lifelong Learning Plan

You can also use funds from your RRSP or your spouse’s RRSP to pay for the tuition costs at Mountain Transport Institute. Mountain Transport Institute Ltd. is a designated post-secondary institution and is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency. The RRSP Lifelong Learning Plan allows an individual to:

  • Withdraw tax-free up to $10,000 per year to a total of $20,000
  • The withdrawal must be from student’s personal RRSP or his or her spouse’s or common law partner's RRSP. The rules do not allow a withdrawal from a parent's RRSP.
  • The funds must be repaid within 10 years.

Employment Insurance

If you are on EI or have been on EI in the last few years you may qualify to have your training paid for by the EI program. Contact your EI counsellor to find out how to apply. Typically you will have to prepare a training package proposal for approval. A well-prepared package will often be funded for tuition costs and you will receive EI benefits while you are training.

If you are not currently on EI but have been in the last 3 years (5 years if you were on maternity leave) you may qualify for the Reach Back program. The Job Creation Partnership program may pay for part or all of the tuition cost of the Earning Your Wheels Program. Contact your local EI office for more details.
